Luka Modrić, the 39-year-old Croatian midfielder and Real Madrid legend, is set to join AC Milan on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Los Blancos. This move marks the end of a 13-year tenure at Real Madrid, during which Modrić secured numerous titles and accolades.

AC Milan has identified Modrić as a key addition to their midfield, aiming to infuse experience and leadership into the squad. The club’s project, under the guidance of coach Massimiliano Allegri, offers Modrić a competitive environment in Serie A and a chance to continue playing at a high level as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup.

Modrić’s decision to join Milan is influenced by several factors, including his admiration for the club since childhood and the opportunity to play in a league that suits his style of play. Despite interest from other clubs, including those in Saudi Arabia and the MLS, Modrić has chosen to continue his career in Europe.

The agreement with AC Milan is expected to be finalized soon, with Modrić bringing his tactical intelligence, refined technique, and leadership qualities to the Rossoneri. His arrival is anticipated to have a positive impact on the team’s performance and morale as they aim for success in the upcoming season.

AC Milan dream of signing Luka Modric and are willing to offer him a contract after he left Real Madrid, according to reports.

Modric is quite simply one of the best midfielders to ever play the game and he won 28 major trophies at Real Madrid, including six UEFA Champions League titles, four LaLiga titles, and two Copa del Rey titles, making him the most decorated footballer in the club’s history.

However, time waits for nobody and at the age of 39 it was decided that the Croatian would not be offered a new contract and would leave the Spanish capital on a free transfer. No retirement announcement has followed, though.

Modric: Milan’s dream

According to Matteo Moretto, Milan ‘dream of Luka Modrić’. The new sporting director Igli Tare has already discussed the possible free transfer internally but the player is in no hurry to decide his future and will figure out the next step together with his family.

Moretto went on to explain the situation in a bit more detail in a video on his YouTube channel, and he admitted that for now it is not an open negotiation but rather an idea.

“We are not talking about a negotiation in progress but only a dream on the part of Milan. Modric hoped until the very end to renew with Real Madrid, which for him was home and everything: the club has decided to focus on young players and wants to start a new cycle,” he said (via MilanNews).
